The dimensions must be given as accurately as possible so that the correct shipping costs can be determined. Incorrect dimensions may result in a subsequent charge. Use a tape measure (or ruler) to take the correct measurements in centimeters.

Measure as follows:

Length (L) x Width (W) x Height (H)

Length is the largest measurement, width is the intermediate measurement, and height is the smallest measurement. Round up odd numbers to the next full number. (e.g. 22,4 cm to 23 cm)

How do I measure a package with an irregular shape?

If the package has an irregular shape, take the same measurements as for a regular package shape: length (L) x width (W) x height (H). Protruding parts that cause the package to lose its typical rectangular shape must be included in the dimensions. If the package has an irregular shape, each side length must be measured up to the outermost point.

The weight must also be given as accurately as possible in order to determine the correct shipping cost. An incorrect weight may result in a subsequent charge.

For a low weight, a kitchen scale is very useful. If your shipment is heavier: First weigh yourself and then place yourself on the scale again with your shipment. The difference between the two weights is the weight of the shipment.

In order to calculate the correct shipping price and ensure problem-free delivery, it is important that the dimensions and weight of a shipment are entered correctly in the shipping calculator.

Each package is measured and weighed at the HUB (transshipment point) of the selected shipping service provider using special measuring and weighing equipment.

Any deviations from the data given with the order are determined and recalculated by the service provider. You will receive a subsequent invoice from us with the calculated price difference.

Note

The parcel carrier may refuse to accept your shipment when picking it up if your specified dimensions do not appear to match the actual dimensions. The shipping service provider may thus withhold or delay delivery of your shipment.

The acceptable size for parcel shipping is calculated using the girth measurement. The girth describes the sum of the longest side added with twice the width and twice the height. For a conventional parcel shipment, the girth can be no more than 300 cm. The maximum weight for such a shipment is usually 31.5 kilograms.

Example

A cuboid parcel has the dimensions 60 x 60 x 60 cm. Another parcel measuring 100 x 50 x 50 cm, on the other hand, is oblong. For both shipments, the girth is 300 cm.

Note

The upper limits of girth and maximum weight, however, vary not only from provider to provider, but often also within the different rates of the same service provider. For example, express shipping to the USA allows a maximum weight of 70 kilograms in addition to a girth of up to 400 cm.

For a better overview, you can find the individual upper limits of each rate in the respective rate details in the shipping cost calculator. If your dimensions exceed the specified maximum values, the goods must be shipped as bulky goods or on a pallet
