INSURED SHIPPING WITH JUMiNGO

1. YOUR INSURANCE OPTIONS WITH JUMINGO
arrow_drop_down

JUMiNGO offers you the right insurance for your shipment. The amount of the insurance premium depends, on the one hand, on the value of the goods to be insured and, on the other hand, on whether the shipment is national or international.

We particularly recommend insured shipping when the value of your shipment is not fully covered by statutory liability or when the carrier does not offer any liability coverage at all (e.g., UPS shipments – limited to €510). Since statutory liability is usually limited to just €11 or €25 per kilogram of shipment weight, insured shipping is especially worthwhile for lighter but valuable goods.

You can choose between a Standard and a Premium Insurance option:

Standard Insurance

When booking standard insurance, 100% of the value you specify is insured. In the event of damage, theft, or loss, a deductible of €50 applies.

Premium Insurance

When booking premium insurance, 100% of the value you specify is insured without any deductible – JUMiNGO covers this for you.

Additionally, in the event of damage or loss, you benefit from priority customer support. Your case will be prioritized, and your JUMiNGO account manager will provide you with weekly updates on the status of your claim.

Your insured shipment is covered by KRAVAG-LOGISTIC Versicherungs-AG. KRAVAG-LOGISTIC has been a specialized provider of transport insurance since 2000 and a reliable partner of JUMiNGO since 2017.

How to Book Insured Shipping with JUMiNGO

In the last step of the ordering process, you can decide whether to choose Standard or Premium Insurance for your shipment(s) or waive additional insurance coverage entirely.

When booking insured shipping, it is necessary to specify the value and contents of the shipment (mandatory for values above €50,000).

Based on the information you provide, our system automatically calculates whether insured shipping is worthwhile for you compared to statutory liability.

2. WHEN DO I NEED INSURED SHIPPING?
arrow_drop_down

Insured shipping is worthwhile if you want to protect the value of your shipment against:

  • Damage
  • Loss
  • Theft

Only with insured shipping can you ensure that you are reimbursed for the full value – provided the insurance terms are met. Insurance is particularly recommended for valuable items such as snowboards, fenders, or rims.

Compensation based on the carrier’s statutory liability usually covers only a fraction of the total value – especially for lightweight but valuable goods. With insured shipping, you are on the safe side and minimize the risk of financial loss.

3. WHAT DOES “STATUTORY LIABILITY” MEAN?
arrow_drop_down

The term statutory liability means that the carrier is legally obliged to compensate for any damage or loss of a shipment for which they are responsible.

A carrier’s liability is governed by law and international agreements and is particularly limited in amount.

The exact liability amount depends on factors such as the value of the goods, the weight of the shipment, and the so-called Special Drawing Rights (SDR) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

As a rule of thumb, you can expect compensation of about €11 or €25 per kilogram (depending on the transport route), provided this amount does not exceed the actual value of the goods.

Example:

  • You are shipping a smartphone with a value of €1,000 and a weight of 1 kg from Germany to the USA.
  • The liability for 1 kg of shipment weight for this route is about €11* or €25* per kg.
  • The amount is always based on the current SDR exchange rate and may vary (approx. €8.33 or 22 SDR per kg).
  • In this example, in the event of damage or loss, you would receive compensation of about €25.
  • If you had booked insured shipping instead, the full value of €1,000 would have been covered.

* €11/kg applies to national transport or international transport by road
* €25/kg applies to international transport by air

Are there exceptions depending on the carrier?

Yes and no. Statutory liability cannot be completely excluded by the carrier. However, some carriers define their own contractual liability limits that may be lower than statutory limits. Where possible, it is therefore recommended to book insured shipping to receive compensation based on the shipment’s actual value.

4. CAN THE INSURANCE REFUSE A PAYMENT?
arrow_drop_down

Yes. Insurance coverage is not a flat-rate guarantee and is subject to various conditions. First and foremost, the respective insurance terms must be met in order to receive compensation in the event of damage or loss.

If goods are excluded from insurance coverage under the terms, insured shipping cannot be booked. This includes, for example, antiques, jewelry, and cash or securities.

Another requirement is that the damage must not be due to insufficient packaging. If the insurance conditions are met, there is usually nothing preventing compensation.

To receive the final payout, it is essential to provide proof of the value of the goods or the amount of damage. The insured sum you specify in advance is the maximum amount that can be reimbursed in the event of loss or damage.

It is therefore important to specify the correct value of goods when booking in order to avoid underinsurance.

5. WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE IN CASE OF A CLAIM
arrow_drop_down

Regardless of whether insured shipping was booked or not, the following always applies in the event of damage:

  • Visible damage must be reported immediately upon delivery and, if possible, noted on the delivery receipt. This obligation also applies in the case of contactless delivery – in such cases, inform the courier of the damage.
  • Hidden damage, which is only noticed after unpacking, must be reported no later than the 7th day after delivery in writing.
  • Possible loss must be reported promptly as well. If the tracking of your shipment has been interrupted for several days, we recommend immediately instructing the carrier to initiate a trace in order to prevent a total loss where possible.

In the event of loss or damage, you will receive personal support from our customer service team.

Note on claims: Insurance applies per order and covers all packages included. Therefore, make sure to insure the total value of your shipment (not per individual package).

FAQ: INSURED SHIPPING

1. What Is the Difference Between Insured Shipping and Statutory Liability?
arrow_drop_down

The carrier’s liability is regulated by law and limited in amount.

The weight of the shipment is decisive for calculating the compensation.

Insured shipping, on the other hand, is an optional paid service that covers the value of your shipment against the typical risks of transport.

2. Which Risks Are Covered by Insured Shipping and How Long Does the Coverage Apply?
arrow_drop_down

By booking insured shipping, your goods are covered against risks such as loss or damage for the entire duration of transport.

Coverage ends once the shipment is delivered to the recipient.

3. When Is Insured Shipping Worthwhile?
arrow_drop_down

Insured shipping is particularly recommended for valuable goods.

Since statutory liability only covers a small amount per kilogram of shipment weight, additional insured shipping is advisable, especially for lightweight but valuable items.

4. What Should Be Considered to Ensure a Smooth Processing of the Transport Insurance?
arrow_drop_down

Insurance coverage is tied to proper packaging of the goods.

It is recommended to photograph the goods and the fully packed shipment before dispatch.

In case of a claim, proof of value must be provided.

At delivery, the shipment should be inspected for any visible or hidden damage.

5. Which Goods Cannot Be Insured?
arrow_drop_down

Depending on the insurer and policy, some goods are either completely excluded or only insurable upon request.

Excluded from insurance coverage at JUMiNGO are, for example, cash, securities, antiques, and jewelry.

Art objects or personal belongings (e.g., luggage) can be insured upon prior request and approval.
