DHL EXPRESS

DHL is an acronym for the surnames of Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom, and Robert Lynn, who founded the logistics and shipping company in San Francisco in 1969. Since the acquisition of Deutsche Post AG in 2002, DHL Express has operated as an independent business division. With revenue accounting for a total group share of 29% in 2021, DHL Express represents the most important part of the Deutsche Post DHL Group.

Today, DHL Express offers fast and reliable shipping to over 220 countries and regions. Approximately 120,000 employees work across about 111,800 service hubs, 3,400 stations, and 22 hubs worldwide.

In Germany, around 32,000 drop-off locations make it easy and flexible to connect with DHL Express shipping. Customers also have the option to book a convenient pickup service.

UPS

Founded in 1907 in Seattle by two teenagers, Claude Ryan and Jim Casey, the parcel service UPS was originally called American Messenger Company. In 1919, the company expanded and changed its name to United Parcel Service.

With an annual revenue of around USD 97 billion in 2021, 534,000 employees, and the daily delivery of 25 million parcels to over 220 countries and territories, the American parcel service is now among the largest shipping providers worldwide. In Germany, more than 5,000 pickup stations provide private and business customers with fast and flexible shipping options.

DPD

DPD is an international courier, express, and parcel service provider. Founded in 1976 in Aschaffenburg, the company today is part of La Poste, the second-largest postal company in Europe, headquartered in Issy-les-Moulineaux.

Both shippers and recipients benefit from DPD’s flexible and convenient shipping service. With 120,000 employees and 70,000 parcel shops across Europe, DPD enables the daily transport of 8.4 million parcels to 230 countries and territories.

GLS

GLS stands for General Logistics Systems. The Dutch parcel service was founded in 1999 in Amsterdam and became a subsidiary of the British Royal Mail Group. Today, the GLS Group connects 41 countries across Europe and North America.

A well-developed road network, supported by over 9,000 employees and 7,000 parcel shops in Germany, enables short transit times and flexible delivery options. This allows a parcel within Germany to arrive in less than 24 hours and Europe-wide delivery within 24 to 96 hours.

FEDEX

Federal Express Corp. was founded in 1971 in Little Rock, Arkansas, by Frederick W. Smith. Only 12 years after its founding, FedEx became the first American company to generate revenues of over one billion USD without mergers. In 2016, the company acquired the Dutch parcel service TNT, thereby uniting the world’s largest express airfreight network with Europe’s most extensive road network.

The group employs over 425,000 people, operates 670 aircraft, and manages its main hub at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. This vast network enables the daily delivery of around 19 million parcels to over 220 countries and territories.

TNT

TNT (Thomas Nationwide Transport) was founded in 1936 by Australian Ken Thomas, before being acquired in 1996 by the public postal company PTT in the Netherlands. In early 2012, TNT announced that U.S. logistics giant UPS had submitted a takeover bid of €4.9 billion. The takeover ultimately failed in 2013 as it was not approved by the EU Commission.

In May 2016, the Dutch company was nevertheless acquired by FedEx for €4.4 billion. In December 2021, FedEx announced the successful merger of TNT and FedEx. In its final year before the takeover, TNT was represented in over 61 countries with around 56,000 employees, generating an annual revenue of approximately €6.9 billion.

DER KURIER

DER KURIER was founded in 1979 in Hamburg as a city mediation center for courier services. Today, as part of the GLS Group, the parcel service operates around 250 independent stations in Germany, ensuring a dense, nationwide courier and express network.

Since the founding of OverNight Service GmbH in 1984, DER KURIER has developed into a specialist for overnight delivery. The parcel service provides reliable express shipping of documents, parcels, and other goods up to 50 kg, supported by state-of-the-art IT infrastructure.

trans-o-flex

trans-o-flex is a German logistics group headquartered in Weinheim, Baden-Württemberg, specializing in the shipping of parcels and pallets. Founded in 1971, trans-o-flex was the first company to provide nationwide direct deliveries to pharmacies and hospitals within 24 hours.

Today, in addition to national and international express shipping, the company is a specialist in transporting temperature-sensitive products. Alongside its domestic express services for time-critical shipments, trans-o-flex also delivers to 36 other European countries.

JUMiNGO

With its digital shipping platform, the company JUMiNGO, founded in 2017 in Bergisch Gladbach, has been providing a clear and transparent shipping solution in the logistics industry.
