HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO SHIP A PALLET?

The cost of pallet shipping depends on several factors. Depending on the destination, there are different pallet carriers such as DHL Express, UPS, TNT, FedEx, and JUMiNGO. Each provider charges different rates. The size and weight of the palletized goods also impact the price. The larger and heavier the shipment, the higher the cost.

If the dimensions or weight exceed the carriers’ limits, the goods must be shipped as oversized freight, which again increases the price.

How to properly pack a pallet?

Proper protection is crucial to avoid damage or delivery refusal. Make sure your palletized goods are securely packed. Use sturdy materials such as cardboard sheets, stretch film, and strapping bands to protect your shipment.

The standard European pallet measures 120 x 80 cm, but other sizes are also accepted.

Some carriers allow dimensions up to 500 x 240 x 180 cm.

For large items not packed in boxes, multiple layers of stretch film may suffice.

How to secure your shipment?

• Place the goods on the pallet without overhanging the edges.
• Use stretch film to stabilize the load.
• For heavy shipments, add ratchet straps or tension belts.
• Use stackable pallets where possible to optimize transport.

What are the permitted dimensions and weights?

• Maximum dimensions: 500 cm long, 240 cm wide, 180 cm high
• Maximum weight: 1,000 kg

Volumetric weight is calculated using this formula: Length × Width × Height (in cm) ÷ 5,000

Example: A pallet measuring 120 x 80 x 160 cm with a real weight of 50 kg gives a volumetric weight of 307.2 kg.

What are the different pallet types?

• EUR 1 (standard): 120 x 80 cm, 20–24 kg
• EUR 2 (industrial): 120 x 100 cm, 30–35 kg
• EUR 6 (half-pallets): 80 x 60 cm, 9.5–14 kg

For international shipping, use certified pallets (e.g., EPAL).

Pickup with or without loading assistance?

Pallet shipments always include pickup at your home or business. From a certain weight onwards, a pallet truck or forklift may be required. Some carriers offer loading assistance—check the rate details to see if this is included.
