Shipping costs depend on several factors. In addition to the choice of service provider such as UPS, TNT, DHL Express, or FedEx, it is also important to know whether you want to make a domestic or international shipment. Depending on the provider and region, significant price differences may occur.
Moreover, size and weight influence the price. Bulky goods take up a lot of space during transport and are often non-stackable. Since the carrier can therefore transport fewer parcels, this also affects the price. For bulky but very light goods, carriers calculate based on volumetric weight (length × width × height in cm / 5000). If this is higher than the actual weight, the volumetric weight is used to calculate the price.
For urgent shipments, you can also book an express shipment or direct transport, ensuring that your goods reach their destination as early as the next day, depending on the chosen rate. The prioritization and additional effort required for this type of transport usually result in a surcharge from carriers. However, thanks to our discounts with major providers, it may happen that the express option is cheaper than the standard version.
JUMiNGO helps you quickly find the right rate for shipping your bulky goods. However, some important points must be observed to ensure smooth transport and that your goods arrive intact. Here are the key points to know:
1. How do I properly pack my bulky goods?
No matter which shipping rate or shipping method you choose, proper packaging is essential. It ensures that your shipment arrives safely and helps avoid delays or non-delivery caused by insufficient packaging.
If possible, ship your bulky goods in a box where the items can be fully stored. For irregularly shaped objects, this can be more challenging, but proper packaging with a box is still recommended. Even if improvised, cutting the box to the right shape and reinforcing it with adhesive tape ensures stability.
Inside the box, use filling material such as kraft paper or cushioning film. Empty spaces should be filled so that the goods remain fixed inside the box and protected from external pressure. For added security, wrap items in bubble wrap with several layers.
If the items are particularly heavy or difficult to handle, it is recommended to ship them on a pallet, firmly secured with straps.
Safety Tip: Even with optimal packaging, damage may occur during long journeys. JUMiNGO offers you the possibility to purchase shipping insurance, so the declared value of your goods is covered in case of damage.
2. What dimensions are allowed for shipping bulky goods?
The permitted size is calculated using the girth measurement, which corresponds to the sum of the longest side plus twice the width and twice the height. Depending on the provider, the limits may vary greatly. Entering your data in the shipping cost calculator is useful to quickly find out which rates are available for your shipment.
Example: A cubic parcel measuring 60 × 60 × 60 cm has a girth of 300 cm. Another parcel measuring 100 × 50 × 50 cm also reaches 300 cm.
Note: Depending on the rate and weight, the use of a load carrier (pallet) may be required. The pallet dimensions must then be included in the calculation.

3. Pickup or Drop-Off?
Since bulky goods often involve heavy and difficult-to-handle shipments, many carriers offer pickup at your location. Please note that for some providers, if a certain weight limit is exceeded, loading assistance may be required. The corresponding details can be found in the conditions of each tariff.
If you prefer a drop-off at a parcel shop, providers such as UPS and FedEx have many locations where you can deliver your shipment. With our Shop Finder, you can easily locate the nearest suitable drop-off point.
